It's the beginning of fall and I'm already sick from my recent trip out west, so why not write a little update on my life for the Logs. Jumping to the end real fast, this summer's major road trip was named & branded Canyon Feel the Love Tonight as a nod to my relationship achievement of 1 year of excellence. It was defiantly grand and would take back a penny it took to get out there. Here is a brief overview of our trip:
Flintstone's Bedrock City
Phoenix/Trans documentary screening
UFOs at Roswell & their Piñata Festival
The Mini Time Machine of Miniatures
Home Sweet Home
Since our last update...
As summer rolled around I was still struggling with understanding what I wanted to really get out of design. Did I want to use it to fix problems, or tackle illustration heavy quests and fight for my loot, or maybe even join the advertisement battle to the top? Without an answer, put my hands in as many creative buckets as I could just trying to find something that kept me inspired. However, a jack of all trades is a master of none, right? I do know I want to do more, communicate often, and share my experiences with my peers.
Back at the beginning of summer, it came to my attention that not working in a space made for creatives to learn had me feeling a little detached. So I started attending events targeting people with similar interests, it helped, but that still wasn't filling my hanger for my creative cohort. I wanted something up my millennial alley of anxiety driven, living the dream, working creative type. And that grew into a daily routine of communicating through social media, Slack, and all around putting myself out there as honestly as possible.
Diving into freelance I had no idea what I was getting myself into, especially working a 9 - 5 during the weekdays. So far I've gotten the opportunity to brand a comedy album for one of the funniest people in Memphis, Katrina Coleman. Took on a mural painting job for a metal recycling company in North Memphis, that might turn into another mural! On top of that, I recently debuted a fabulous rebrand for a Memphis Most Favorite, Aunt Key's Apothecary. But that's not all, it drove me to birth an online community of friends who are sharing ideas, projects, experiences and even a few happy hour wind-downs. That is what I'm most proud of this summer and I'd like to thank my new & old friends who have joined me for the ride to make it exactly what we needed. It wouldn't have nearly been as great without you lot!!! <3
Now that fall is here (minus the nice weather) and I've already started a few new projects you should make sure to take a look at! In October, Five in One Social Club's steamroll workshop will be printing all of our oversize prints with an actual steamroller - and and and - I've been crafting some awesome monsters for the upcoming Monster Market pop-up downtown run by my friend Holtermonster's first market. I'll also be debuting a special #NoShaveNovember surprise I'm more than proud of to share before fall wraps up and winter comes.
